How does the Backtags rating system work?Backtags collects the total amount of bookmarks for any domain across the top leading social bookmarking services. This data is then summarized resulting in a total score (Total amount of bookmarks or references) for any given domain. The results are then normalized to provide a ranking of all websites. This "social ranking" gives an indication of the popularity of a website as determined by the user. The theory behind this is - If a large number of users use a particular keyword/tag or range of keywords/tags to describe their perception of the content of a site then this site is more relevant for these keywords or tags than others. |

What does the Tag Ranking mean?Backtags collects the tags from various social bookmarking services and then aggregates the tags per domain. In order of ranking, the top sites are the sites most referenced by users for a particular keyword or tag. How relevant are these rankings?Test the rankings yourself and be a judge of the relevancy. We expect to have around 2 million domains by early October 2007 and at this stage we believe the search results will be highly relevant for any keyword. These tags or keywords have been added by users who understand the content of the pages they are bookmarking. This makes our results far more relevant than search engine results calculated by machines. How do you control Spam?Easy, as long as the users of the social bookmarking sites do not bookmark spam sites our results will remain clean. |
