How does the Backtags rating system work?
Backtags collects the total amount of bookmarks for any domain across the top leading social bookmarking services. This data is then summarized resulting in a total score (Total amount of bookmarks or references) for any given domain. The results are then normalized to provide a ranking of all websites.
This "social ranking" gives an indication of the popularity of a website as determined by the user. The theory behind this is - If a large number of users use a particular keyword/tag or range of keywords/tags to describe their perception of the content of a site then this site is more relevant for these keywords or tags than others.
